Being woo-adjacent vs. Woo-woo

several upcoming events you can woo-adjacent at this month!

In partnership with

I had a meeting in a sauna.

Not kidding.

And the wildest part? No one questioned it.

It got me thinking about how quickly “weird” becomes normal.

In the 1980s and 90s, distance running itself was considered fringe. Truly. Read Shoe Dog, study the rise of running culture through the lens of product innovation. The Oregon track coach Bill Bowerman literally wrote a book called Jogging in 1967 to convince Americans this was something they should try.

Today, we shut down Manhattan for marathons.

But my uncle still talks about running races in the 90s and having friends call him insane.

Being early automatically makes you look a little woo woo.

There was a time when you could roll your eyes at anything remotely “out there.” Cold plunges? Please. Breathwork? Be serious. Acupuncture? Sounds fake.

Now your highest-performing coworker is blocking their calendar for meditation. Your marathon friend swears by sauna recovery. Doctors are referring patients to acupuncture.

If you operate in the health and wellness space today, you simply cannot poopoo the woo woo.

Someone close to me coined his stance as woo-adjacent. And I love it.

The future always looks a little weird before it looks obvious.

So, if you’d like to meet me in a sauna, I’ll be at othership this Friday & tons of other events below!

xx, Caite
