WTF are we obsessed with Lions Mane | Equinox Pass | Boston Social Hour

Mushrooms, parties and workouts. (but not combined)

Someone told me we should have a little ‘insiders’ name. Like... a code word. Not Sure.

I was thinking “Zesties”

Like Besties, but since it’s Lime Social Club and we bring the zest, then we would be Zesties? Eh, not my favorite.

Anyways, time to get moving and groovin’.

This week I dove into my obscure thoughts on Lions Mane mushrooms, detailed out Feb Plans for NYC, and posted RSVP links for Boston’s first Social Event!

Sign up, have fun, and tell your friends!

xx,

Caite

Mushroom popularity has skyrocketed.

When I was in college (2015-ish) I found this company called Four Sigmatic — they made mushroom coffees and hot chocolates that I liked.

Although I wouldn’t say I was the craziest health nut, I loved (still do) to geek out on new trends or things that people are researching. Mushrooms were that at the time.

Since then, mushrooms have infiltrated every aspect of the morning coffee routine, they have popped up more on my Instagram (Mud/Wtr, Ryze)… and the most recent mushroom growth was seeing packaged lions mane in a Trader Joe’s up in Westchester.

Here is why this is significant:

Seeing ‘trending’ items in a Whole Foods in New York or San Fransisco would be normal. Big cities are hubs for finding new trends, testing products, and seeing what sticks. You can use these markets as a focus group to help predict spending patterns elsewhere at a later time. (Cities tend to be ahead of trends).

Seeing packaged lions mane in general was a bit shocking to me, I have only seen it in the wild or at the farmers market. But having it in Westchester means the mushroom thing is hitting the general population.

In the last 10 years, social media and podcasts like Huberman Labs have been able to spread information rapidly, as a result, it’s changing our habits.

And, its wild to think food comes in popularity waves, but here’s some growth predictions:

  • The global mushroom market was $50.3 billion in 2021 and has an expected CAGR of 9.7% through 2030. That’s a lot.

  • The US Mushroom market alone was $2.5 Billion in 2021 and has a CAGR of 9.4% from 2021-2030

  • As a culture, the main growth drivers are an increase in vegan eaters, an increase in salt-conscious diets, and the general population being more conscious of their consumption and health benefits/effects.

  • Mushroom nutrients help mitigate oxidative stress and prevent or decrease the risk of chronic conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and dementia.

If you want to listen to some people chitchat about mushrooms you can see Huberman on Tim Ferris’s Pod here, A mushroom TED talk here, or just all things Huberman Here.

For now, I need to go make a Chagachino. Bye!

  • A friend introduced me to this awesome gal, Emily. She’s out of Brooklyn and hosts Journalling classes. They are so flipping cool and are always selling out or full. Check her out here!

  • Early Feb: Purse Power: Lime Social Club will be hosting an open conversation and Q&A with Financial Planning Experts to help us better understand best practices, how to start small, and what financial freedom can look like.

    • Caite’s Note: I am personally really excited about this — I don’t think enough women talk about money with each other and how to best invest it, what to do with it or what their accounts really look like. We will have experts there to chat with and will open up a submission form for people to send in questions beforehand. & this won’t be stuffy. Think: fun, laughing, drinks, snacks, NYC picnic tables but also education, power creation and women helping lift women. This will be fun but also a catalyst to help better prepare ourselves for a future of financial freedom!

  • Saturday, Feb 17, All Day: Lime Social Club Self Love Day We love love, but we also love taking care of our mind and body! Start the day off with movement, meditation, and art followed by an evening activity. Each activity will be sold separately so you can participate where you want. Details to come.
