Barrys Bootcamp | Wine Tasting | Thoughts on Soulcycle

NYC we are partnering with Barrys Bootcamp! Boston we have wine tastings for you and a March Workout announcement

I am not saying that I hate the cold (cause I love it).

But, there sure is something about the sun and a warmer day that riles up the people.

Take yesterday for instance.

Still cold, but blue bird day — Sunny, crisp, no wind.

All of a sudden I am hit with this weather and I feel like I need to go run 10 miles or stop working because I want to clean my apartment with the windows open, or that I MUST go hang out with friends after work.

There is just an extra pep in my step, and I can’t fully explain why.

I bet you feel it too.

Which may be good! Well, definitely good. But, also good because we have some after-work activities coming up this month in Boston and NYC and I am pumped to see y’all there.

Check out the cal below — Ta-ta!

Soulcycle’s Addiction

A favorite Pod of mine is How I Built This with Guy Raz.

I have listened to… potentially all of them. But in 2019 he interviewed the founders of SoulCycle and it stuck with me (linked above).

One of the main reasons I love the story is because SoulCycle — for both its pros and cons — offers a third space for people to enjoy movement and gathering in a healthier environment.

And that’s addicting.

Within 2 years of opening, studios were selling out, the ‘front row’ became a thing, and Mondays at noon were marked on calendars across NYC for those who wanted to make sure they secured a reservation.

Which brings me to two thoughts:

  1. SoulCycle gets crap for being cult-like, but if you have ever tried a class you’d know how welcoming and accommodating team members can be. I mean, they even name them team members!!

  2. Success is never reliant on one factor, but community + the mind-body experience are something city people crave. There are a handful of studios that offer the same class as SoulCycle, but just as a workout, not a joyful experience. It’s interesting to see how much people identify with SoulCycle versus just ‘going for the workout’.

I have not been to a ton of classes, but with each one I do go too — I leave it feeling jovial.

So — If you go, let me know your thoughts. I’d just love to hear about your experience.

  • New Book Alert: GUYS! I have told you before that the consensus of my book club was we all ‘liked’ a book… but we have found the pinnacle of all book club books. You MUST read First Lie Wins. Our book club has not even met to discuss in person, but the group chat is full of “I’m sad this book is over, I wanted it to go on longer” and “I’ve never finished a book that fast before.” So run, don’t walk.

  • There is a photographer in the NYC running community, @dhash… He is truly unbelievable and captures some of the best movement photos I have ever seen. I have run in his circle a time or two, he’s super humble, cool and the craziest thing… he runs with the group while shooting to get the images he wants (Which means he’s usually sprinting to get ahead, shooting, and then catching up again… accidental sprint repeats). Well… He shot The Big Alta 28k last weekend and dove into a bit about how he preps for these runs and what they are like. You can see that video here, and his profile here. I highly recommend checking him out!
